Check Your U.S. Savings Bonds

The Federal Reserve says there are over $6 billion in U.S. Savings Bonds that have not been redeemed and no longer pay interest. If you own Series E or EE savings bonds, they stopped paying interest at their maturity date. Many received these bonds as gifts or through payroll deduction plans in the 1960s and they are gathering dust in the back of a drawer or in a safe deposit box.

What to do?
You can roll these bonds into Series HH bonds to avoid paying tax on the interest or you can simply redeem the bonds and put the money into something that does pay you interest.
